Charter boat calculators

Two free calculators for the numbers charter captains argue about in the winter: what weather cancellations really cost, and how much of the season goes into the phone.

Every captain has a rough sense of these figures and almost nobody has written them down. How many trips a season actually blow out, how much of that came back because a deposit was non refundable, and how many hours went into booking calls, deposit chasing and float plans between April and October.

Both calculators run in the browser, keep nothing and ask for no email. Put in your own numbers from last season rather than the defaults. The defaults describe a typical single hull inshore and near coastal operation, and your port, your season length and your weather window will move them a long way.

Why these charter calculators are open to anyone

Captains already run this arithmetic on the back of a fuel receipt. You count the Saturdays a small craft advisory took away, subtract the deposits you actually got to keep, and try to work out whether the percentage you take at booking covers a blown out July weekend once the mate, the bait, the ice and the slip are paid for. Doing that sum on the ramp during a busy weekend is why the figure never gets written down, so both charter calculators stay open with no sign up and no email box in front of them.

Both are worth keeping even if you never put a single charter booking through TransomBooking. An exposure per booked trip figure gives you a deposit percentage you can defend out loud to a party flying in from out of state, and a season total for booking calls, float plans and weather reschedules tells you how many fishing days the phone quietly took off the water. Print the results, take them to your insurance agent or whoever does your books, and set next season's half day and full day rates from a figure instead of a feeling.

From the calculator to the confirmation

A deposit percentage or a season hour count changes nothing until the next fishing party books under it. In a short demo we take the figure you just produced and set your deposit, your captain call rule and your float plan so every hull collects it without another round of phone calls.
